De Plantijn

The Slotervaart hospital site will undergo a metamorphosis in the coming years. The building itself will be given a different purpose, but the surrounding institutions have also joined forces to turn this part of Amsterdam into a future lively city district: The Plantijn. A neighbourhood for everyone. A place that offers people a home, but also workplaces. A neighbourhood with a diverse range of activities: from healthcare to art and from catering to sports.

De Plantijn – New vibrant city district

Participating
parties

The Plantijn district has great ambitions and is already taking important steps. A place that gives Amsterdam a new impulse with a modern, high-quality and affordable care-work-living destination. The participating parties who are working together to shape the plans are Sanquin, including the Amsterdam Blood Bank, the Centrum voor Zorg Slotervaart (the former Slotervaart Hospital, now owned by Zadelhoff), Antoni van Leeuwenhoek and Cordaan’s ‘Hof van Sloten’ nursing home.

Ambition

A city district for everyone. There is room for housing, care, sport, art, education and more. A breeding ground for young talent and a pool of knowledge and expertise. For residents in the neighbourhood and for visitors from outside. Feel at home and welcome. The Plantijn will be a vibrant place in Amsterdam where everything comes together. This is where you can live, work, play sports and get an education. There will be play facilities for children, art will be omnipresent and care will come to the people instead of the other way around.

Location

In Amsterdam West, De Plantijn is part of the Schinkelkwartier development area, which in the coming years will develop into a lively urban district. For years, the site was mostly known for the Slotervaart hospital, where institutions such as Sanquin and Antoni van Leeuwenhoek are also located. The area lies on the Johan Huizingalaan and runs from the Plesmanlaan in the north to the Louwesweg in the south. It is also easily accessible, with bus and tram stops in front of the door, the Henk Sneevlietweg metro stop is within walking distance and the A10 motorway exit is only a few minutes’ drive away.
